The high-speed operators Renfe, Iryo and Ouigo have reached an agreement with Adif to increase the travel time between Madrid and Barcelona by 25 minutes until December 13, 2026.
The operators requested this measure from Adif to have greater security in ticket sales planning and to stabilize schedules well
Reorganization of schedules and cancellation of trains
The increase in the average travel time is due to the large number of notifications from the train drivers to Adif of track incidents following the railway accidents in Adamuz (Córdoba) and Gelida (Barcelona). In this context, Adif asked operators to cancel the first and last trains of the day to have enough time for inspections and maintenance of the railway network. This measure, initially planned from this Thursday until Saturday, February 7, also implied a reorganization of schedules that increased the journey between Madrid and Barcelona by 25 minutes.
