The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has championed this Sunday the advances in equality on the occasion of International Women's Day and has warned that the Executive will not allow setbacks in the rights conquered.
In a message disseminated on his X account, the head of the Executive has defended that the progress achieved in recent decades has not been accidental, but rather the result of the work and pressure of the feminist movement. “On International Women's Day, we say it loud and clear: we will not allow hatred to replace rights. We are not going to normalize inequality, nor take a step back. We will not let the past advance. More feminism. More equality,” he affirmed.

Sánchez has accompanied his publication with a video in which he thanks the effort of different generations of women: from those who paved the way when “nothing was easy,” to those who “sustain the country every day” and the young women who, he points out, “are not willing to accept a single step back.”
The President has also highlighted that Spain has become “a benchmark in gender equality”, which —in his opinion— implies an added responsibility to protect the rights achieved. In that sense, he has warned of the risks of regression when “machista violence is trivialized, attempts are made to silence girls on social media or the feminist movement is discredited to divide and confront.”
“Feminism is quite the opposite, it is a human rights cause. It is equal pay, it is dignity at work and being able to live without fear and it is for our daughters to have more opportunities than their mothers and to continue breaking glass ceilings. That is why we say it loud and clear, we are not going to allow hatred to replace rights and we are not going to normalize inequality. We will not let the past advance,” concludes the President of the Government.
