The Popular Party seeks to lead the narrative of pension revaluation after voting against, this week, the omnibus decree presented by the Government which, among other disparate measures, sought to increase pensions. In this context, the Deputy Secretary for Institutional Regeneration of the Popular Party, Cuca Gamarra, has demanded that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, stop "using pensioners as a bargaining chip" and **has asked the Executive to immediately bring to the Council of Ministers a new royal decree-law focused exclusively on pension revaluation because, as they insist from Génova 13, they are in favor of their revaluation.**

The statements took place at Espacio Lagares in Logroño, where Gamarra participated in the Housing Forum organized by the PP of Logroño, accompanied by the mayor of the city, Conrado Escobar. The inaugural event also included the national deputy and spokesperson for the PP in the Commission for Housing and Urban Agenda, Sergio Sayas, as well as the councilors of the Logroño City Council Patricia Sainz and Íñigo López-Araquistáin.

Before the forum began, Gamarra reiterated to the media the Popular Party's support for pension updates, although she criticized the government's 'omnibus' decree for including measures unrelated to this issue, which her party disagrees with.

According to the PP's deputy secretary, the Executive conditioned the revaluation of pensions on initiatives related to the illegal occupation of homes, which led to the PP's rejection of the text. In this regard, she pointed out that the decree linked the pension increase to the "protection" of those who irregularly occupy homes.

For this reason, Gamarra has insisted that pensioners "are being used as hostages," being forced, according to her, to accept policies they do not agree with in order to benefit from the updating of their pensions. "We defend the revaluation of pensions, but not occupation," she concluded.

Pensioners' Demonstration Outside Génova 13

However, the PP is now seeking to redirect the narrative regarding its position on pension revaluation after the idea has taken hold in a segment of public opinion that the PP 'voted against raising pensions'. So much so that, as we have been reporting on ElConstitucional.es, this past Friday hundreds of retirees gathered outside the Popular Party's headquarters on Génova Street in Madrid to show their indignation over the PP's vote against the omnibus decree in the Congress of Deputies

The measure, included in the so-called "omnibus" decree, sought to update pensions according to the consumer price index (CPI) for 2026, but it did not achieve the necessary support in the Lower House. The retirees' discontent has materialized in a demonstration in front of the national headquarters of the Popular Party on Génova street, in Madrid, with shouts of "Vox and PP, it's the same shit". "For some political parties, pensions continue to be a bargaining chip and not a fundamental right, using them in a partisan way for their strategy at all times," point out the pensioner platforms in a statement.
