After years of expansion of the universe of Game of Thrones with spin-offs like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the world of Westeros could finally make the leap to the big screen. According to specialized media, the film announced some time ago already has a complete script draft, which represents a significant advance in its development.

The feature film, which is being driven by Warner Bros Discovery in collaboration with HBO (and potentially with the future participation of Paramount Skydance), will adapt the story of Aegon I Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Conqueror. This plot, which has never been brought to audiovisual format despite being one of the pillars of the lore of Game of Thrones, narrates how he unified the Seven Kingdoms and established the Targaryen dynasty over Westeros

Aegon and his family —including Visenya and Rhaenys— have been mentioned in various previous productions, but their complete story has never been seen on screen. The film promises to explore this epic war with dragons and politics for the first time, something many fans have been waiting years for.

Although a release date or definitive cast has not yet been announced, the fact that the script is finished and that executives are enthusiastic about the project indicates that this film could become one of the biggest cinematic events based on the universe created by George R.R. Martin

If it were to materialize, it would be the first Game of Thrones film after almost a decade of absence from the main saga and would mark a new milestone in the franchise that began with the original series in 2011.
