The filmmaker and actress Olivia Wilde has directed The Invite, an English remake of the Spanish film Sentimental, originally by Cesc Gay. The American version of this comedy premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2026 with great anticipation, after a shoot in which Wilde not only signs the direction, but also acts alongside a strong cast.
The film, which features the participation of Penélope Cruz, Seth Rogen and Edward Norton, adapts the original story to an American context. The plot follows a married couple whose monotonous relationship is put to the test when they invite their neighbors to dinner, unleashing a series of situations that mix comedy, tension, and exploration of intimacy.
Written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, The Invite has already generated anticipation among both critics and the public, and is scheduled for a limited release in United States cinemas in July 2026, with distribution by A24. The film merges the intimate style of the Spanish original with a fresh and contemporary approach, reinforced by a high-profile international cast.
