Six months after the Adamuz (Córdoba) railway accident, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has demanded in a message published on the social network X “truth, transparency and justice” for the victims of one of the most serious railway accidents that occurred in the community. “Those dramatic days were forever etched in the collective memory of Andalusia. It was heartbreaking and the wound is still open,” said the Andalusian leader.

The accident, which occurred on January 18, 2026 on the Madrid-Seville high-speed line, left a toll of 46 dead and more than a hundred injured after the derailment of an Iryo train and its subsequent collision with a Renfe Alvia. The judicial investigation remains open in the courts of Montoro, while the technical investigation analyzes the possible responsibilities and failures that could have led to the tragedy. Among the main hypotheses is the breaking of a rail at a welding point of the railway infrastructure.
In parallel to the investigations, victims' associations have insisted on the need to fully clarify what happened and have denounced that there are still numerous unknowns about the accident. They also demand improvements in railway safety and greater transparency from the administrations involved, considering that doubts persist about the state of the infrastructure and the management after the accident.
The Junta de Andalucía has approved during these months a decree of economic aid for victims and their families, compatible with the measures promoted by the central government. However, both the administrations and those affected agree that the judicial and technical process will be decisive in clarifying the causes of the accident and determining the responsibilities that may arise from one of the most tragic episodes in recent railway history in Andalusia.
