The president of the Junta de Andalucía and candidate of the Partido Popular for re-election, Juanma Moreno, has defended this Thursday the model of political stability and management developed during his mandate against possible pacts with Vox. During an informative breakfast organized by Fórum Europa in Sevilla, Moreno assured that he aspires to achieve a sufficient majority to prevent decisions about Andalucía from being made by a gentleman in an office in Madrid. “I am in a position to achieve a sufficient majority,” affirmed the popular leader, who defended that the community continue to be governed “from Andalucía and for Andalucía.”
Moreno marked distances with the agreements reached by PP and Vox in communities like Extremadura and Aragón and made clear that he does not wish to transfer that model to Andalucía. “To depend on another formation limits and conditions”, pointed out the Andalusian president, who insisted that political stability is key to maintaining the economic and social planning of the community. In reference to the national leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, he assured that he does not want the decisions about Andalucía to depend on “a gentleman 500 kilometers away who does not know this community”.
The Andalusian president also criticized some of the proposals defended by Vox during the campaign, especially regarding migratory matters, and guaranteed that the PP “will never violate the law”. Moreno described the so-called “national priority” proposed by Vox as “a somewhat hollow slogan” and recalled that there is existing legislation that must be complied with. “There is an Immigration Law and a series of laws that are what we have to comply with”, he affirmed, emphasizing that the Popular Party will always act within the legal framework both in Andalusia and in the rest of Spain.
During his intervention, Moreno also vindicated the dialogue model he maintained in his previous coalition government with Ciudadanos and with the then Andalusian vice-president, Juan Marín. “We spoke directly and made decisions from here,” recalled the popular leader, differentiating that stage from the current pacts between PP and Vox in other territories. Moreno even confessed that he offered Marín to return to the Andalusian Executive after the 2022 elections, although he finally rejected the proposal.
Precisely, Juan Marín was in charge of presenting the event and dedicated a very laudatory speech to the Andalusian president, whom he defined as “a man of principles, of impressive humanist values and trustworthy”. The former leader of Ciudadanos defended that under Moreno's mandate, Andalusia has become an “economic locomotive” of Spain and asked citizens to bet again on “stability” and the “safe hands” of the current regional Executive.
Moreno also ruled out setting a near horizon for leaving regional politics and rejected opening a succession debate within the Andalusian PP. “It would be an enormous irresponsibility to say now that this is my last legislature”, he assured, arguing that this would introduce “uncertainty” into a political project he considers consolidated. The Andalusian president defended that his priority continues to be to guarantee growth, stability, and confidence in Andalusia at a political moment marked by fragmentation and pacts between parties.
