The pre-campaign of the Andalusian elections of next May 17 enters its most intense phase with a Sunday marked by the mobilization of the main national political leaders. Less than a month before the elections, the parties accelerate their agenda with high-profile events in different points of Andalusia, aware of the strategic relevance of this electoral appointment.
The prominence falls, to a large extent, on the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who participates in Gibraleón (Huelva) in his first major event of this pre-campaign. There he supports the socialist candidate, María Jesús Montero, who aspires to return to the PSOE control of the Junta after the defeat suffered in the June 2022 elections. Sánchez's presence underlines the political weight of Andalusia at the national level and his direct involvement in the campaign.
Montero, former vice president of the Government and key figure of the central Executive in recent years, faces these elections as an opportunity to relaunch the socialist project in the community. Her candidacy seeks to capitalize on both her institutional profile and her closeness to Sánchez, in an attempt to mobilize the progressive electorate.
In parallel, the leader of the Partido Popular, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, also travels to Andalucía to participate in an event with the current president of the Junta, Juanma Moreno. The meeting, which brings together mayors and municipal officials of the PP, aims to showcase the territorial strength of the party and its presence throughout the autonomous community.
Moreno arrives at this appointment with the objective of revalidating the absolute majority achieved in 2022, a milestone that represented a historic change in the Andalusian political map. However, Feijóo himself has recognized in recent days that repeating that result will not be easy, given the current political context and the fragmentation of the vote.
The PP event focuses on the so-called “municipal power”, considered key to consolidating electoral support in the eight Andalusian provinces. The joint presence of Feijóo and Moreno seeks to reinforce the image of stability and management that the party wants to project to the electorate.
On the other hand, the left-wing formations located to the left of the PSOE also intensify their activity with a large event in Seville. Sumar, Izquierda Unida, Más Madrid y Comuns meet under the slogan "A step forward" to support the coalition Por Andalucía.
This political space, which brings together several progressive formations, will run united in the elections with Antonio Maíllo as candidate for the Presidency of the Junta. The event will feature the participation of government ministers such as Pablo Bustinduy, Ernest Urtasun and Mónica García.
The high expectation has forced to change the place of celebration to a venue of greater capacity in Seville, which evidences the interest generated around this call. The coalition seeks to consolidate a fragmented political space in previous electoral appointments and improve its results in the Andalusian Parliament.
With the official campaign scheduled between May 1 and 15, this pre-campaign phase is key to shaping the political narrative and mobilizing voters. May 17 thus emerges as a decisive event not only for the future of Andalusia, but also for the political balance at the national level.
