After learning of the death of two civil guards who died in the line of duty while pursuing a narco-boat off the coast of Huelva, PP and PSOE decided to suspend part of their electoral agenda planned for this weekend. The decision came after the Junta de Andalucía decreed official mourning for this Saturday throughout the community.
The PP was the first party to announce the cancellation of its campaign events for both Friday and Saturday. The Andalusian president and candidate for re-election, Juanma Moreno, did participate on Friday morning in Cádiz in a meeting organized by Europa Press Andalucía, although he subsequently suspended the commitments planned for that same afternoon.
The campaign of the popular ones will resume on Sunday with a joint event between Moreno and the national leader of the party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in a rally that will take place in the Javier Imbroda sports city.
For its part, the Andalusian PSOE also modified its agenda and canceled the event that María Jesús Montero had planned to hold on Friday afternoon in Montilla (Córdoba), where she was going to participate together with the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas. In addition, the rally that was initially scheduled for this Saturday in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), with the presence of the President of the Government and general secretary of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, was postponed until Sunday.
Meanwhile, the rest of the main formations that run in the Andalusian elections of 17M maintained their planned campaign activities and did not support the mourning for the deceased agents.
In the case of Vox, its candidate for the Junta, Manuel Gavira, justified the continuity of the electoral acts and defended that his party would not suspend the campaign. The leader assured that “they want us silent” and added that “what must be suspended are the policies of the mafioso and corrupt government of our nation”. Likewise, Gavira referred to the fight against drug trafficking stating that “there is no more alternative: either prison or to the bottom of the sea”.
