The number of fatalities from the Los Gallardos fire in Almería rises to 14, after the death of a woman with severe burns

Weeks after the Los Gallardos fire was extinguished, the fire continues to claim victims. Sources from the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital in Seville reported this Tuesday the death of a woman who was in the burn unit of the hospital center, after suffering serious injuries caused by the devastating fire in Almería.

The victim was admitted with critical burns covering 70% of her body surface, so she was admitted from the first moment to the Intensive Care Unit, where she remained under the care of specialists from Intensive Medicine and the Plastic Surgery and Major Burns Unit. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she did not recover.  

With this death, the toll of fatalities from the Los Gallardos forest fire rises from 13 to 14. In addition, three other people remain hospitalized in the burn unit, as a result of the fire that was declared on July 9 and left 5,200 hectares burned in the Levante Almeriense.

Of the 13 previous fatalities, twelve were foreign citizens, and one was a Spanish citizen.

The Civil Guard, along with forest agents and the Investigating Court continue investigations to clarify the origin of the fire, which was alerted by a call to 112, allegedly caused by the fall of an electrical cable.
