The death this Friday of two agents of the Guardia Civil in a pursuit of a narcolancha off the coast of Huelva has once again put the focus on the extreme danger faced by the personnel who combat drug trafficking in southern Spain. The civil guards died after the collision of two Maritime Service vessels during an operation against these criminal networks.
According to what has been reported by the Armed Institute, in addition to the deceased agents, another civil guard was slightly injured in the collision. Emergency services acted quickly in the area to assist the personnel involved in the maritime operation, although they could not save the agent's life.
The Guardia Civil has publicly expressed its sorrow for the death of its colleague and has conveyed its wishes for “a speedy recovery” to the injured. The tragic event comes just one year after the murder of agents Miguel Ángel González and David Pérez in Barbate, which occurred on February 9, 2024. That night, a narco-boat brutally rammed a GEAS patrol boat at the entrance of the Cadiz port, causing the death of the two Civil Guards and leaving two others injured. The images recorded by the agents' helmet cameras showed the violence of the attack and reflected the desperation of the personnel, who even shouted: “They are coming for us!” before being run over.
