The president of the Basque Nationalist Party, Aitor Esteban, warned this Sunday that it would be “irresponsible” for the Government of Pedro Sánchez to prolong the legislature beyond 2026 “without direction, without a stable majority and with an uncontrolled and judicialized agenda”. The nationalist leader made these statements during a PNV event held in Durango, in Bizkaia, when one year remains until the next municipal elections.
During his speech, Esteban referred directly to the “judicial scandals surrounding the Spanish Government”, which, he affirmed, are harming the image of politics and generating institutional instability. The PNV leader also assured that there are already “nine open cases” related to the Executive's environment and pointed out that Sánchez's public support for José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero occurs in a “very serious and worrying” context.
The nationalist leader considers that the Executive is going through a political situation “certainly very difficult” to be able to exhaust the legislature. In this regard, he questioned the viability of maintaining the current scenario without approved budgets and without a solid parliamentary majority that guarantees stability until 2027.
