The president of Canarias, Fernando Clavijo, has confirmed this Thursday that the cruise ship MV Hondius, affected by an outbreak of hantavirus, finally will not dock in ports of the archipelago and will remain only anchored off the islands. The decision was conveyed to him by the Minister of Health, Mónica García, during a meeting held at the Ministry of Health in which Minister Ángel Víctor Torres also participated.
According to Clavijo, who explained to journalists, the passengers will be evacuated by means of “a launch or a mothership” with the aim of reducing “the vectors of possible contagion and risk”. The Canarian president also assured that he had previously conveyed to the central Government his rejection of the cruise ship heading to the Canary Islands and considered it “very good news” that it would finally not dock in the islands.
The head of the autonomous Executive also demanded from the Government that the ship remain “the shortest possible time” off the Canary coasts and that, once the disembarkation of all passengers is completed, it continue its route towards the Netherlands.
