The president of the Junta and PP candidate, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has won the regional elections in Castilla y León and strengthens his party's position, according to the provisional count. With 83.06% of the votes counted, the Popular Party gains two seats and reaches 33 procurators in the Cortes.

The PSOE also improves its results and adds two more representatives, up to 30, consolidating its position as the second force and absorbing a good part of the electoral space to its left. Meanwhile, Vox's far-right increases its presence with an additional procurator and reaches 14 seats.

The rest of the parliamentary map barely registers changes. Unión del Pueblo Leonés maintains its three representatives, as does Por Ávila, which retains its sole representative. In contrast, Soria ¡Ya! loses two seats and is left with one. Both Ciudadanos and Unidas Podemos are left out of the Cortes, which leaves the forces to the left of the PSOE without representation.

Nor does he manage to enter the autonomous Parliament the ultra agitator Alvise Pérez, who ultimately does not obtain representation.

The PP believes that that Vox's 'no' to Guardiola has harmed it in Castile and Leon

From the national leadership of the PP they believe that Vox could have obtained a greater result and maintain that the party has been harmed by its rejection of the investiture of María Guardiola as president of the Junta de Extremadura. According to popular sources, the party's internal studies came to place Vox close to 25% of the votes. To this they add the wear and tear derived from the internal crisis experienced in recent weeks after the expulsion of Javier Ortega Smith and José Ángel Antelo.

The result has also reopened the debate on the future of the political space to the left of the PSOE. The spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, highlighted this Sunday the absence of forces from that spectrum in the Cortes of Castilla y León.

Rufián talks about "pure negligence" if the left to the PSOE does nothing

“Zero seats to the left of the PSOE. Not doing something (or doing the usual) is pure negligence”, Rufián has written in a message on the social network X.

In recent months, the republican leader has raised the need to rethink the future of that political space and has advocated exploring new alliances among progressive parties, even with the idea of a plurinational candidacy.
