Former mayor of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Pere Albó, arrested for masturbating in a hotel pool

The Local Police of Santa Susanna, a town in Barcelona, arrested Pere Albó, former mayor of Sant Feliu de Guíxols and former deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia, this Sunday afternoon, accused of an alleged crime of exhibitionism after publicly masturbating in the swimming pool of a hotel establishment in the municipality.

According to 'Cadena SER', the events occurred when Albó accessed the hotel pool area without authorization. At that moment, the facilities were occupied by dozens of clients, among whom were numerous minors. Eyewitnesses alerted emergency services when they observed that the former public official began to ostentatiously touch himself in front of those present. The same municipal sources indicated that, at the time of the arrest, the detainee showed very unstable behavior and seemed to be completely out of his mind.

Albó has a long political career at the local and regional level. He served as mayor of Sant Feliu de Guíxols under the PSC banner between 2007 and 2011, later becoming deputy mayor of the Costa Brava municipality. Later, in the 2021 regional elections, he joined the Junts per Catalunya lists for the Parliament as an independent, obtaining a seat he held until the end of the legislature in 2024. Currently linked to the MEScat party (Independentistes d’Esquerra), the former parliamentarian had resigned his councilor position in the Sant Feliu City Council last December.

File and suspension of membership in MEScat

After the details of the arrest emerged, the National Coordinator of MEScat Independentistes d’Esquerra issued an official statement in which it expressed its "absolute surprise and consternation" at the seriousness of the facts published by the media. The political party has strongly condemned the behavior attributed to the former mayor.

As a first immediate measure, the party leadership has proceeded to the opening of an internal file to thoroughly investigate what happened. Likewise, MEScat has agreed to the precautionary suspension of Pere Albó's membership, a resolution that will remain in force provisionally until the disciplinary investigation process is definitively concluded.
