A minor has died and two others are in critical condition after suffering a serious accident this Friday afternoon on l'Arrabassada beach, in Tarragona. The incident occurred in a rocky area, where several minors had trouble getting out of the water.
According to emergency services, the incident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m., when a call was received reporting that a group of six minors were in distress in the sea. Three of them managed to reach the shore on their own, while the other three had to be rescued.
Extensive emergency deployment
Six ambulances and a medicalized helicopter from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) were dispatched to the scene and attended to the affected minors. Despite the efforts of the health workers, one of them died.
The other two rescued minors were transferred in critical condition to Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona, where they remain hospitalized.
The operation also involved agents from the Mossos d'Esquadra, who mobilized several patrols and a vessel from the Maritime Unit, as well as the Generalitat Firefighters, who activated five units to collaborate in the rescue efforts.
Authorities are keeping an investigation open to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident and determine how the group of minors became trapped in the rocky area without being able to return to shore.
