The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, assures that he will comply with the investiture agreements reached with Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), especially regarding the collection of Personal Income Tax (IRPF), although he qualifies that he will do so "from positions of realism".
In an interview published this Sunday in El País, Illa insists that Catalonia needs to approve budgets and assures that he does not contemplate a different scenario, despite the fact that the Republicans have paused negotiations on the regional accounts.
The socialist leader also wanted to send a message of reassurance about the scope of the agreements: none of the signed agreements—nor those that may be closed in the future—, he states, will put solidarity between territories at risk.
Asked about a hypothetical leap into state politics to replace Pedro Sánchez, Illa dismisses it. He says he has a ten-year project for Catalonia and aims to leave public services "at the highest European level." In his opinion, after an intense political period, it is time for stability and less noise, with concrete solutions for citizens.
