The Govern of Salvador Illa already has the necessary support secured to approve the budgets of Catalonia. The Catalan Executive has reached a new agreement with Comuns that will definitively unblock the accounts and now face their parliamentary processing.
The pact will be signed this Thursday at the Palau de la Generalitat by Illa himself and the leader of the Comuns, Jéssica Albiach, after several days of negotiations between both parties. The understanding comes just two days after the agreement sealed between the Govern and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya.
Among the main measures of the new agreement, the strengthening of housing policies stands out, whose investment will grow up to 2.5 billion euros. The budget of the Plan de Barrios de la Generalitat, aimed at the rehabilitation of vulnerable areas, will also be expanded, reaching 1.2 billion.
In addition, the document incorporates new proposals, such as the extension of the R-Aeroport line of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya towards the regions of Vallès Occidental and Oriental, as well as the promotion of a legislative initiative to apply the known as “Zucman Tax”, a tax aimed at large fortunes exceeding 100 million euros.
Another key point will be the creation of the new Dirección General de Disciplina de la Vivienda, an body responsible for inspecting and sanctioning non-compliance with housing law, especially regarding rentals and temporary leases. According to Albiach, the new body could start operating before summer.
From the Comuns, they consider that the pact goes beyond simple budgets and frame it as a true “legislature agreement”, with the objective of giving stability to the Govern during the coming years.
