The secretary general of Vox and leader of the party in Catalonia, Ignacio Garriga, has stated that Aliança Catalana will end up “completely devouring” Junts and a good part of the pro-independence electorate, although he believes it will not manage to penetrate among Vox voters.
This was stated in an interview granted to Europa Press, when asked about the possibility of the party led by Sílvia Orriols gaining ground among its ranks. Garriga has acknowledged that there is a certain “coincidence” between both formations on immigration issues, although he has stressed that the differences are important.
In this context, he has raised: “The big question is what a majority party among the Catalan social and economic 'establishment' like Junts, which has been in a process of decomposition by becoming the biggest ally of Pedro Sánchez's Government, is going to do”.
The Vox leader has assured that his party "is very calm" and that it continues to increase its popular support as a reaction to the policies applied in recent decades. In his opinion, these policies explain that currently many Spaniards perceive mass immigration as the main challenge.
Furthermore, he has lashed out against the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, whom he has called a “political scam,” considering that he maintains the same line as his predecessors, Pere Aragonès and Quim Torra.
“Clearly Illa has no support, has no leadership and is subordinate to his boss, to Pedro Sánchez. That is to say, Salvador Illa does not govern, Salvador Illa carries out orders from the Government,” he affirmed.
In relation to the lack of agreement to pass the Generalitat's 2026 Budgets, Garriga has opined that “the most reasonable thing” would be for Illa to call elections, so that citizens can decide new majorities for the political future of Catalonia.
Finally, it has pointed out that Illa and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) have postponed until June a possible budgetary pact with the intention that the Andalusian elections have already been held.
