Two months after the Govern de Catalunya opted to withdraw the budget project due to the lack of sufficient support in the Parlament, the understanding between the PSC and ERC is now very close to being finalized. The initial refusal of the republicans to endorse the accounts had left the Catalan Executive without room to push the proposal forward, but the negotiations held in recent weeks have allowed positions to converge until the agreement is practically in the final stretch.
Sources from both formations assure that the pact is very advanced and that only some minor aspects remain pending before it can receive the definitive validation from their respective internal bodies. The forecast with which both the PSC and ERC are working is to present the agreement at the beginning of next week.
The foreseen calendar involves concluding the conversations on Monday and then announcing the understanding on the Generalitat's budgets. In parallel, during next week, a bilateral commission will also be held between the State and the Generalitat with the aim of ratifying some commitments included in the agreement and that require the involvement of the central Government.
Furthermore, the new pact will incorporate adjustments and complementary elements regarding the agreement previously reached with the Comuns last February. If the foreseen roadmap is maintained and no last-minute unforeseen events arise, the Govern led by Salvador Illa will convene an extraordinary Consell Executiu on Friday the 22nd to formally approve the Catalan accounts.
