Ceuta is going through a moment of growing tension since, between July 30 and 31, around 70,000 migrant people entered the autonomous city. This Thursday, several altercations have been registered. The first of them occurred when a group of migrants attacked several soldiers. Hours later, a group of Ceutians prevented a Red Cross truck from accessing Trampolín beach to distribute food among the migrants. Subsequently, that same group set fire to an area of the improvised settlement installed on the land.
On Thursday afternoon, a peaceful demonstration was called to protest against the management of the Government of Pedro Sánchez in the migratory crisis of the autonomous city. However, a group of the protesters changed the direction of the mobilization to initiate violent attitudes against the migrants.
"Invaders, expulsion" or "Ceuta is not for sale, Ceuta defends itself," were some of the chants heard during the concentration. In addition, among the attendees, Spanish and Ceuta flags could be seen, as well as some banners with Carlist symbolism.
The violent events took place after several people who were at the concentration prevented the access of a Red Cross truck that was going to distribute water and food among the migrant people.
12 migrants arrested for assaulting soldiers
In the early hours of Thursday, four soldiers were injured in an alleged assault registered in the Benzú area, in Ceuta. A group of between 30 and 40 people would have ambushed the troops when they were heading to a surveillance point and would have thrown stones of considerable size at them. The incident has resulted in twelve migrants arrested.
The events occurred around 5:30 a.m., when the soldiers were traveling in a vehicle towards the surveillance point established in Benzú. Upon reaching the area, several individuals came out of their hiding place, surrounded the vehicle, and began to throw stones at it, causing various damages.
Given the danger, the troops abandoned the car and fled on foot to safety. During the retreat, the alleged aggressors chased them in the direction of Calamocarro and continued throwing stones at them. As a result of these attacks, the four soldiers suffered various injuries and contusions.
The officers finally managed to contact the emergency services through 112, which allowed activating a joint operation in which agents of the National Police and the Civil Guard participated. Upon noticing the arrival of the security forces, the alleged aggressors fled towards the Benzú area.
The agents then began a search operation to locate those responsible for the aggression. The operation concluded with the arrest of twelve people, all of them Moroccan migrants, as alleged implicated in the events.
