The King will receive this Thursday the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, at Marivent Palace. The audience will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be marked by the consequences of the massive entry of 72,000 people from Morocco, which occurred a week ago.
The meeting will allow Felipe VI to learn directly about the situation of a city that is still trying to recover normality. The Interior Ministry assures that some 70,000 people have already returned to Morocco, although Ceuta's resources remain overwhelmed and around 1,100 minors remain under its care.
Vivas has demanded this Wednesday "succor" and "aid" from the rest of Spain through the central Government, which holds the main executive powers. The popular leader has described the situation as "absolutely critical" and asks for an extraordinary response to face the humanitarian emergency.
Before going to Marivent, the president of Ceuta will meet at 1:00 p.m. with the president of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, also belonging to the Popular Party.
The King's "concern and indignation"
The audience will culminate several days of monitoring by Felipe VI. The monarch has maintained contacts with Vivas, with the president of Melilla, Juan José Imbroda, with Pedro Sánchez and with Alberto Núñez Feijóo. To all of them he has conveyed words of "encouragement and firmness".
The Royal Household announced last Saturday that Felipe VI had followed "with great concern and indignation the serious events in Ceuta and, to a lesser extent, also in Melilla". The message called for a coordinated action that would convey to both cities "the support and affection of the rest of Spain".
The King also defended that the State must guarantee their security and prevent events that have caused the death of dozens of people from happening again. His words came after a crisis that overwhelmed the border, public services and Ceuta's reception capacity.
Felipe VI has never officially visited the autonomous city during his twelve years of reign. The last visit of the Kings to Ceuta and Melilla dates back to November 2007, when Juan Carlos I and Sofía toured both territories for the first and only time.
Vivas will arrive this Thursday at Marivent after warning that Ceuta needs immediate state aid because it is in an "absolutely critical" situation.
