Vivas demands the return of "all" those who entered Ceuta and Aznar reproaches: "National sovereignty does not have holidays"

The former President of the Government José María Aznar traveled this Thursday to Ceuta to meet with the president of the autonomous city, Juan Jesús Vivas, after the massive entry of people recorded on July 30 and 31. His visit coincided with the day of appearances in Congress of three government ministers —Mónica García, Félix Bolaños and Ángel Víctor Torres— to explain the Executive's management during the migratory crisis. During their meeting, Aznar defended the need to reestablish order and security in Ceuta, while the Ceuta leader set the return to Morocco as a condition to recover normality.

Vivas has demanded that those who arrived in the city during the massive entry and still remain there return to Morocco “as soon as possible.” The Ceuta president has insisted that his request does not contemplate exceptions: “When I say everyone, I mean everyone.” In his speech, Vivas described the situation experienced in recent weeks as “the hardest and most difficult moment in our recent history” and assured that citizens have lost their peace of mind and remain with “their souls in suspense.”

The president of Ceuta has again questioned the actions of the authorities during the massive entry and has denounced that the border was “violated before the passivity of those who could and should have prevented it” despite the fact that, he maintained, there were previous warnings about what could happen.

Aznar supports the PP's measures

For his part, Aznar explained that his presence in Ceuta responds to his intention to “show support and backing for the people of Ceuta.” The former president considered that what happened constitutes an attack on territorial integrity and demanded to regain control of the situation.

“The territorial integrity of Spain has been violated and order and security must be restored,” said Aznar, who also expressed his “complete” support for the measures proposed by the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

Regarding the people who entered the city on July 30 and 31, the former president defended a strong position: “Whoever assaults our border cannot remain in national territory.” Aznar also directed his criticism at the policy of Pedro Sánchez's Government and vindicated the need to strengthen Spain's position abroad. “National sovereignty does not have holidays [...] weakness is and always will be provocative,” he warned.

In this regard, he has called for a foreign policy “that does not leave Spain isolated at the mercy of any extortion, without allies to count on in crises.”

The meeting between Vivas and Aznar took place while Congress hosted the appearances of Mónica García, Félix Bolaños, and Ángel Víctor Torres, responsible for explaining to the Chamber the actions of their respective departments during the Ceuta crisis.
