The Popular Party candidate for the presidency of the Junta de Extremadura, María Guardiola, undergoes a second investiture vote in the regional Assembly after not having obtained the necessary support in the first round held last Wednesday, March 4. In that first vote, Guardiola did not reach the required absolute majority, so the investiture is now decided in a second vote in which she only needs a simple majority, that is, to obtain more votes in favor than against.
The outcome largely depends on the position of Vox, whose deputies are key for the PP to be able to move forward with the investiture. The party has maintained a critical stance. During the debate, Vox representatives reiterated their rejection of supporting the investiture under current conditions and criticized the Popular Party's strategy in the negotiation to form a government in the community.
During the investiture session, the spokespersons of the different parliamentary groups have intervened to state their position on Guardiola's candidacy. The interventions have reflected the differences between the political parties and the difficulty in achieving a clear majority in the autonomous chamber.
In case of not achieving the necessary support in this vote, the investiture process would remain open and new negotiations could be proposed between the parties represented in the Assembly to try to unblock the formation of government in the autonomous community.
