A 52-year-old woman was murdered this Sunday in the Pontevedra town of Mos, in a presumed case of gender-based violence, and the Civil Guard found the main suspect, her ex-partner, lifeless after hours of searching.

The events occurred in a home in the parish of Sanguiñeda, where the victim's sister found the body of María Belén with multiple stab wounds and notified the authorities. According to the investigation, the assault was perpetrated by a man of 57 years, with whom the woman had had a relationship that had recently ended, although he visited her frequently.

After fleeing the scene of the crime in his vehicle, the suspect was located by the Guardia Civil entrenched in a house in the neighboring municipality of O Porriño. Specialized teams from the Reserve and Security Group (GRS) accessed the property late at night and found the man dead with stab wounds before being arrested. The deputy government delegate in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, has described the case as a possible femicide and has expressed his support for the victim's family, emphasizing the seriousness of these events in the community.

In response to the incident, the city council of Mos has declared three days of mourning, has held a minute of silence and has called a protest gathering in memory of the deceased. Data is currently still being collected and the availability of support resources for victims of gender-based violence, such as the 016 telephone line, is recalled.

This case is added to the femicides registered in Spain so far this year, in a context of concern about gender violence in different autonomous communities
