The Ministry of Defense has assured that the fall of the national flag during the parade of the Armed Forces Day in Vigo occurred due to the breakage of the mast pulley. The incident occurred during the opening of the event and was witnessed a few meters away by Felipe VI, Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor, who was participating for the first time in this military event.

After the fall of the ensign, the king gave instructions to replace it with another flag of the Royal Guard while the parade continued. The image became one of the most commented anecdotes of a day also marked by the complicated meteorological conditions in the Galician city.

The bad weather and the low cloud ceiling also forced the suspension of the aerial parade planned over Vigo. Attendees could not enjoy the flight of fighters, helicopters, or the Mirlo Formation, responsible for drawing the Spanish flag in the sky in one of the most anticipated moments of the military event.
