The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, appeared this Thursday on 'En boca de todos', where she addressed both the purchase of the luxury penthouse in Chamberí by the regional Administration and the eviction of Maricarmen, the 87-year-old woman expelled from her home.

During the interview, Ayuso explained that the acquisition of the property, whose cost exceeded six million euros, came from a proposal by her own team. "I didn't think it was bad, we all saw it," the Madrid president assured when asked about the operation.

Ayuso also defended the use the property will have while works continue at the Puerta del Sol headquarters. As she explained, during that period she will end up moving "to another ministry." "Meanwhile, you have a residence with an office like any public administration," she added.

Ayuso responds to Maricarmen's eviction

The Madrid president also referred to the eviction of Maricarmen, 87, and the alternatives that have been presented to her after leaving her home. Ayuso assured that she has already been offered "an alternative: two residences."

"We can't do anything else, I don't control judges or command the police. That's Pedro Sánchez's Government," she defended during the interview, referring to the judicial and police action in the eviction.

Criticism of the Government for housing

Ayuso's intervention also included criticism of Pedro Sánchez's Executive's housing policy. The Madrid president maintained that the Government intends to "intervene in apartments" and questioned the measures applied in the rental market.

"When an owner puts their house up for rent, the state wants to intervene in prices and promotes squatting," she stated.

Along the same lines, Ayuso defended that the situation can end up especially affecting vulnerable owners. "A tenant decides not to pay you and the squatter has more rights than the owner. In fact, there are women of Maricarmen's age who have become vulnerable because their homes have been squatted," she assured on Mediaset.
