Isabel Díaz Ayuso has addressed the start of the trial for the Kitchen case to disassociate the current Popular Party from a plot that, as she has stressed, belongs to the past. "Today's PP has nothing to do with that," she stated this Monday from Parla, where she insisted that the facts being judged date back more than a decade.

The Kitchen case, which begins in the National Court, investigates an alleged parapolice operation promoted by the Ministry of Interior during the Government of Mariano Rajoy to steal compromising documentation from the former PP treasurer Luis Bárcenas. The case once again places the party's former leadership in the judicial and political spotlight.

Ayuso has flatly rejected any parallelism with the investigation into the purchase of masks during the pandemic, which begins this Tuesday in the Supreme Court. In her opinion, the PSOE is trying to “tie” both cases to wear down the PP, a strategy she considers self-serving and baseless.

“I believe these cases, some and others, have no comparison,” the Madrid president has pointed out, who has defended that the current leadership of the party bears no relation to the facts investigated in Kitchen. Against that case, Ayuso has focused on the investigation linked to the management of masks, which, according to her, affects “the corruption of the current Government”. She has mentioned figures such as Santos Cerdán or Koldo García, as well as entities and operations that, in her opinion, are part of that network.

The Madrid leader has insisted that both procedures are “totally different” and has stressed that it will be Justice that is responsible for clarifying the facts. “We are not going to question the judges,” she concluded, emphasizing that it is up to the courts to determine responsibilities in each case.
