Ayuso loses her temper over the luxury penthouse and scolds the press for asking: "Have the sensitivity to dissimulate"

Isabel Díaz Ayuso has once again avoided questions about the luxury penthouse acquired with public money by the Community of Madrid. This time, the Madrid president reacted with visible anger and ended up scolding the journalists who were trying to get explanations about an operation that her Government has not yet fully clarified.

The confrontation took place this Friday in Aldea del Fresno, where Ayuso participated in the first meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission for the Reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste. Although her presence was not initially on the agenda, the popular leader addressed the media at the end of the meeting and became annoyed when the questions turned to the home acquired in Chamberí.

"I am focused on important problems. Why don't you ask just once about the affected people and about what we are doing?" she replied. Ayuso asked journalists to have "the sensitivity to at least pretend" and tried to direct their questions towards the consequences of the fire, which devastated more than 25,000 hectares in the region.

The president also accused the media present of acting at the service of her political adversaries. "I don't work for Pedro Sánchez or for what he organizes," she stated while pointing to the microphones surrounding her. "When my adversaries return from vacation, we'll talk," she added before heading towards the vehicle accompanied by her team.

The reaction comes after several days in which Ayuso and her Government have been shifting explanations about the penthouse from one official to another. This Wednesday, the president assured that the management of the property was not her responsibility and referred questions to the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín. Her number two merely presented the controversy as a "smokescreen" from the left.

A 6.3 million purchase still unexplained

The public company Planifica Madrid acquired for about 6.3 million euros a property located on Paseo del General Martínez Campos, in the heart of the Chamberí district. The regional government maintained that it would be used as a provisional office for the president during the planned works in the Real Casa de Correos, headquarters of the regional Executive.

The operation caused a strong controversy due to the price, the residential characteristics of the penthouse, and the lack of information about the specific use it would receive. The Ayuso government later announced that it would sell the property, although it has not detailed when the sale will occur, under what conditions it will enter the market, or why it so quickly abandoned the project that justified its acquisition.

Más Madrid has accused the president of using the tragedy of the fires to escape questions. "She is not going to decide what can be asked of her and what cannot. She will have to give explanations," Manuela Bergerot warned on 'Al Rojo Vivo'.

The regional spokesperson has also reproached Ayuso for resorting to the pain of the victims to present herself as attacked by the opposition and the media. Questions about the penthouse remain open while the regional Executive prepares the sale of a property it bought with public funds and initially defended as necessary for the functioning of the Presidency.
