Ayuso returns to the law and order discourse and asks young people to rebel "in favor of Spain"

Isabel Díaz Ayuso has once again resorted to national epic and trench discourse. The president of the Community of Madrid this Monday asked young people to "rebel" against "decadence" and to do so "in favor of Spain," of the Rule of Law and of "the Spain of always."

The intervention came at the closing of the academic year of the Garrigues Study Center, where Ayuso once again presented the political moment as a threat to coexistence. "No one is above the laws," she stated, before attacking "dogmatism," "sectarianism," "activists" in institutions, and the so-called 'lawfare' theory.

The Madrid leader has also accused her adversaries of promoting a "civil war culture of factions" and has criticized "identitarian regionalism." Her message fits with the tone she has been setting in recent weeks, increasingly closer to far-right frameworks and more useful for dragging the national Popular Party towards positions of maximum confrontation.

Ayuso has even warned that Spain is beginning to walk down an "unknown path" in which, according to her, "coexistence," "institutions," and "common life" are in danger. All this while presenting herself as a defender of the Transition, the Constitution, and judicial independence.

Ayuso sets the pace for Feijóo

The speech does not fall in the middle of nowhere. Just a few days ago, Ayuso demanded observers to supervise nationalizations linked to the 'Grandchildren Law' and stirred suspicion about the electoral census. Feijóo later picked up on that framework with his accusation of "electoral engineering" against the Government, an idea that Moncloa has flatly rejected for fueling doubts about the cleanliness of the democratic system.

This Monday, furthermore, the leader of the PP has promised to bring the Madrid law of the "conceived but not born" to the national level if he reaches Moncloa. The norm, approved in Madrid with the support of Vox, allows recognizing the conceived as a member of the family unit for the purposes of certain public aid. The left considers it an ideological concession to the anti-abortion discourse.

The movement once again shows who sets much of the political pulse of the right. Ayuso approves the law in Madrid, Vox celebrates it, and Feijóo turns it into a national promise a few days later. The same happened with the 'Grandchildren Law,' where the Madrid president opened the door to electoral suspicion before Génova fully entered the matter.

The Madrid president has asked young people to “restart the Spain of always with more enthusiasm than ever”. The phrase summarizes well the tone of her speech. Once again, Ayuso marking the ultra ideological ground on which Feijóo's PP seems increasingly less willing to dispute her.
