An incident in the signaling system at the entrance of the Atocha station has caused delays in six Cercanías de Madrid lines since early morning hours. The problem, detected coinciding with the start of service at 05:00 in the morning, has affected lines C-2, C-3, C-4, C-7, C-8 and C-10, generating delays of between 20 and 30 minutes in full rush hour.
The breakdown has been located on several access tracks to the station. This situation occurs in a process of works that Adif is carrying out to improve the infrastructure, with the implementation of a new track scheme and the enabling of new siding areas. These works seek to increase the capacity and efficiency of the service in the medium term, although they may cause specific incidents like the one recorded.
As a consequence, modifications have occurred in some usual routes. For example, line C-3 maintains its circulation between Aranjuez and Chamartín, while C-4 has had to adjust its routes in several of its branches. Other lines, such as C-7, have been diverted by alternative routes to guarantee service continuity, although with travel times longer than usual.
In addition to Cercanías, the incident has also affected some Media Distancia trains that pass through Atocha or originate from this station. Adif has indicated that technical teams are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible and that part of the incident has already been resolved, although delays persist while normality in circulation is recovered.
