More than 700 hectares have been devastated by the forest fire declared this Thursday in Lozoyuela, north of the Community of Madrid, in the area of the Cinco Villas hill, in the municipality of Lozoyuela-Navas-Sieteiglesias, and has advanced rapidly towards the areas of Buitrago del Lozoya and Puentes Viejas.
Due to the emergency, more than a hundred people have had to leave their homes preventively, although they have already been able to return to their homes, while another two thousand were confined, according to the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín. Since the early hours of this Friday, extinction efforts have resumed with the incorporation of aerial means, which join the 28 ground devices deployed on the ground, in addition to SUMMA 112 personnel and the Immediate Logistics Response Team of Civil Protection Volunteers (ERIVE).
Martín has insisted that the fire "is not yet perimetered or stabilized," and has indicated that the southern front continues to concentrate the greatest concern for emergency services. Meanwhile, roads M-126 and M-135 remain closed to traffic.
The investigation into the origin of the fire remains open. The Civil Guard arrested a man this Thursday as the alleged perpetrator of the fire after several neighbors alerted to his behavior. "Everything indicates that he is responsible," said Martín, who also highlighted the speed with which the agents acted.
