The leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, announced this Saturday that she will be her party's candidate for the Presidency of the Community of Madrid in the upcoming regional elections. The leader communicated her decision during the 'Spring of Hope' event, where she assured that she is taking this step out of political responsibility and because she considers it to be the best for the region.

Belarra explained that she had been evaluating this possibility for some time and defended that Madrid needs an alternative capable of standing up to the current regional government. In her speech, she harshly criticized the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, whom she called a "bad person" and "insufferable", assuring that one of her goals is to defeat her politically.

The general secretary of Podemos also directed criticism at the rest of the left-wing forces. She accused the PSOE of presenting "fourth-rate candidates" for the Community of Madrid and reproached the leader of Más Madrid and Minister of Health, Mónica García, for limiting herself to launching attractive messages without, in her opinion, effectively confronting Ayuso's policies.
