Más Madrid has accused Isabel Díaz Ayuso this Tuesday of using her plans to move her office from Puerta del Sol to divert attention from her management. Deputy Tesh Sidi has pointed out that the regional president makes announcements that shift issues such as housing, the education strike, or the situation of forest firefighters from the debate.
"She gives slogans, she's like a marketing and advertising agency, she keeps releasing pieces so we don't talk about her management," she stated during a press conference in Congress. The parliamentarian described the possible move as a "hook" with which Ayuso manages to make the discussion revolve around her statements.
The reaction comes after it was learned that the regional government is studying temporarily moving the president's activity out of the Real Casa de Correos, where her office is located. Her team alleges that the housing encampment set up in Sol prevents institutional work from being carried out under the necessary conditions, especially security.
Sidi has rejected that this announcement diverts the focus from regional policies. "She constantly throws out hooks and that way we talk about something else and not about her management, but we have to talk about her management and less about her nonsense," she demanded.
A move still without a closed destination
The regional Executive is examining different facilities in the Community to relocate this activity. Among the possibilities are the offices of Canal de Isabel II, in Chamberí, although the destination is not closed. The current headquarters of the Presidency is the Real Casa de Correos, in Puerta del Sol.
The possible move comes amid Ayuso's confrontation with the housing protest, which has been in the square for more than three weeks, and the teachers' mobilizations over the conditions of public education. The president has linked the protests to a political strategy against her Government, while the organizers demand measures on rent, salaries, and public service resources.
For Más Madrid, it is these demands that require explanations. Sidi has listed the education strike, access to housing, forest firefighters, and deaths in residences during the pandemic as issues that should occupy the debate on the actions of the regional Executive.
The deputy also ironized that Ayuso is looking for "some other penthouse or some other small apartment in Madrid, even in the Sierra" to do the election campaign "calmly and be very far from the citizenry". Sidi, who will occupy the second position of Frente Amplio for Madrid in the November 29 candidacy, thus placed the office controversy in the context of the pre-campaign.
The memory of Sol
Sidi's criticism has also reached Ayuso's relationship with the memory of the Real Casa de Correos. The parliamentarian recalled the president's opposition to its recognition as a place of democratic memory.
In that context, and resorting to the language she attributes to vulture funds, she defined Ayuso as "a bug inside Sol that does not respect that memory and that legacy that space has". The expression was part of her reproach for the position of the Madrid Government on the building.
The Real Casa de Correos housed the General Directorate of Security during Franco's regime, where opponents of the dictatorship were arrested and tortured. That past is at the origin of the claims of memory associations for the repression exercised in its dependencies to be recognized and explained.
The central government approved its declaration as a place of democratic memory in 2025. The Community of Madrid appealed the decision and the National Court provisionally suspended its effects in May 2026, without then resolving the merits of the appeal.
