The general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid and Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, presented this Thursday, July 2, his candidacy for the socialist party's primaries, to lead the list that will face the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso in 2027.
In a video sent to the media, Óscar López stated: "Madrid needs a change. Madrid needs us to be brave," he said, from the district of San Blas-Canillejas. In that place, the general secretary of the PSOE was born, which is why he called for a change in the region that has been, "governed for more than thirty years by an increasingly unsupportive, unjust and corrupt right, which privatizes public services to favor the business of a few," adds López.
In his cover letter, he argues that the PP of Madrid governs for "its private club", and forgets the social majority. In contrast, the socialist advocates for a Madrid for "everyone, where the main axis of the regional government is to improve people's lives, not to promote the businesses of its environment." In the video, he also criticizes that "Madrid is being sold in pieces while residents are being expelled from the neighborhoods." Instead, he advocates for building a Madrid "for everyone," and regarding housing, he commented: "So that housing is a right for everyone and not the business of a few. And so that Madrid is a green community that fights against climate change."
The leader of the Madrid socialists has also focused on change in large and small municipalities: "That hope has to reach where you live. To Vallecas, Usera, Carabanchel, Moratalaz, Hortaleza, San Blas, Canillejas, but also to Fuenlabrada, Getafe, Parla, Móstoles, Alcorcón, Alcobendas. Madrid needs fresh air. Madrid needs courage," exclaims López.
For now, in the case of the Community of Madrid, no militant has shown interest in leading the Madrid socialists beyond Óscar López. The same is not true in the City Council of the capital where the general secretary of PSOE Madrid City and spokesperson in the City Council, Reyes Maroto, was joined by her deputy spokesperson and until last week deputy spokesperson of the Federal Executive, Enma López. The information campaign will be between the 12th and 18th, while Sunday July 19th will be the turn of the first round of voting. Should a second round be necessary, it would be the following Sunday, July 26th.
