Thousands of people demonstrated this Saturday in the center of Madrid to demand the resignation of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in a march called by Sociedad Civil Española and supported by Vox and representatives of the Partido Popular. The protest started from Plaza de Colón and advanced to the vicinity of Moncloa amidst chants against the Executive and an abundant presence of Spanish flags.
The mobilization, estimated at around 40,000 people by the Government Delegation, brought together leaders of Santiago Abascal and officials of the PP, as well as controversial figures such as Víctor de Aldama or Alvise Pérez. During the route, criticisms were also heard against media outlets and journalists covering the event, some of whom reported moments of tension.
Vox attended with its own banners under the slogan “Removing Sánchez is also a national priority”, reinforcing its strategy of permanent opposition to the Government. Abascal defended this type of protest as a “necessary” tool to remove the president from power and assured that his party will continue to support all mobilizations against the Executive.
The Partido Popular also wanted to show support for the protest, although without the presence of Alberto Núñez Feijóo. The popular spokesperson in the Senate, Alicia García, defended the attendance of party leaders, arguing that many citizens believe that Spain is going through a serious political and institutional crisis under Sánchez's mandate.
