Vox urges Almeida to convene the Security Council so that the Government delegate assumes responsibility for possible "misfortunes"

The spokesperson for Vox in the Madrid City Council, Arantxa Cabello, has urged the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, to activate the Security Council so that, if a "misfortune" were to occur in the capital, the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, would assume responsibility.

The request was made during the Cibeles Plenary Session, where Cabello defended that the Government delegate "has powers to do so" and recalled that "yesterday the resignation of the Government delegate of Ceuta was announced." "Why? Because responsibility has finally reached him in accordance with his powers. That is where these responsibilities are demanded," she stated.

The response of the mayor of Madrid

Martínez-Almeida responded that demanding the Government delegate to act is "demagoguery" and reproached Vox for pretending that he should tell Francisco Martín "that he has to exercise his responsibility." As he pointed out, what cannot be done is to allow a Government delegate or the Executive to "do and always get away with it."

Cabello, for her part, stressed that Vox will continue to ask for things to be done "for the good of Spaniards and for the good of citizens."

Reference to Ceuta and defense of Madrid's services

In his speech, the mayor asked the Vox spokesperson not to "frivolize" in the face of the Ceuta crisis, acting as if that "invasion" and "street violence" were going to happen in Madrid. Martínez-Almeida defended that the capital has a "great Municipal Police" and "great security and emergency services" which, he said, are prepared to "handle any contingency."

"What we are not prepared for is the demagoguery of pretending that this question is justified for me to tell the Government delegate that he has to exercise his responsibility," the mayor concluded.
