More than 200 social entities have called for a demonstration this Saturday in Benetússer (Valencia), one of the municipalities most affected by the flood, to demand that former president Carlos Mazón resign his seat as deputy and submit to justice. The protest, which is being held under the slogan "Mazón to jail", calls for "truth, justice, and reparation" for the victims and their families
The spokespersons for the main victim associations made these statements to the media before the start of the march, which began shortly after six in the evening from Plaça de la Xapa.
The demonstration advances, led by representatives of the affected associations, behind a main banner with the slogan “Mazón to prison”. Participants also carry other messages such as “Consell resignation”, “Mazón criminal”, “They are not deaths, they are murders” or “Ours are made of mud, theirs are made of blood”. The start of the march was accompanied by applause and a performance of the 'moixeranga'.
In statements to the media, the president of the Association of Fatal Victims of the DANA, Rosa Álvarez, stated that Mazón's departure as head of the Consell and the arrival of Juanfran Pérez Llorca to the Presidency of the Generalitat have not brought about real changes. "Nothing has changed. We've changed pawns, but we continue with the same policies," she said, adding that Mazón remains a regional deputy, with special legal status, and has not testified before the judge investigating the case.
