The Generalitat Valenciana has decided this Tuesday to end the confinement in the town of La Vall d'Uixó, imposed by the serious fire that has been ravaging the interior of the province of Castellón for four days. After the decision of the Generalitat, the number of confined people would decrease from 64,000 to 39,000.
Since early morning, through aerial and terrestrial operations, extinction efforts have resumed with the aim of consolidating the perimeter and preventing reactivations in the most complex areas. However, evacuation and confinement measures continue in the rest of the affected municipalities until 11:59 p.m. on Monday.
The fight against the flames is reinforced with 30 aircraft
The forest fire affecting the area around Vall d'Uixó (Castellón) keeps emergency services on maximum alert. Given the seriousness of the situation, last Monday, 30 aerial assets from different administrations worked to extinguish the flames on a day when the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, visited the advanced command post to follow the extinction efforts on the ground.
The operation brought together 17 aircraft from the Generalitat Valenciana, 10 from the Ministry for Ecological Transition, in addition to resources sent by Aragon, Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands. With this reinforcement, the administrations seek to take advantage of the meteorological conditions expected during the day to advance in the stabilization of the fire, which continues to be one of the main active fronts in the country.
The flames have already devastated around 6,500 hectares and affect a perimeter of 48 kilometers. The port of Sagunto remains closed to facilitate water discharge operations by aerial means and ensure the safety of extinction flights.
The latest data provided by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) point to a reduction in the area with greater thermal intensity detected by satellite, although the fire continues to generate an extensive column of smoke visible in much of southern Castellón and northern Valencia. Forecasts maintain a high risk during the next few hours due to rising temperatures and the expected wind change throughout the day.
