The judge investigating the management of the DANA in the Valencian Community has summoned to testify as a witness the former president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, within the framework of the open case to clarify the actions of the authorities regarding the episode of the DANA.
The summons occurs within the proceedings being investigated by the Court of First Instance of Catarroja, which seeks to determine if there were failures in prevention, coordination or institutional response to a meteorological phenomenon that caused significant material damage in different municipalities.
The fact that Mazón has been summoned as a witness implies, for the moment, that the court does not attribute direct criminal responsibility to him, although his statement is considered relevant due to his position at the head of the Consell and for the information he may provide about the management of the episode.
This judicial move occurs in a context of growing pressure from the victims' associations, which demand to clear responsibilities and clarify what happened during the DANA. Some of these organizations have questioned the political management of the episode and have promoted legal actions to advance the investigation.
Furthermore, the case has opened a legal debate about the special jurisdiction of the former president of the Generalitat. In parallel to this summons, victims' associations have requested that said special jurisdiction not be applied, with the aim that the case continue in the ordinary court and not be elevated to the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV).
