This Monday marks the beginning of the fifth week of the indefinite strike by non-university public education teachers in Valencia, with a concentration that will begin at 9:30 AM. Teachers are asking the Department of Education for decent salaries and more resources to ensure quality education. However, after 21 school days of mobilizations, the unions and the counselor Carmen Ortí have not reached an agreement.
In this regard, at 10:00 AM, the Education sectoral table will meet, after the Department of Education presented a new document, in which it offers 3.388 million euros over the next four years and includes ratio reductions, the incorporation of 7.742 teachers or 1.410 million for educational infrastructure.
Of the eight issues still pending agreement, those that generate the most discrepancies are those linked to salary improvement —with an offer of a progressive increase up to 200 euros per month by 2028— and the use of Valencian in the public education system.
The strike began on May 11 after the Department of Education presented a document to the unions that teacher representatives consider insufficient to reach an agreement. The proposal from the Valencian Government did not include the salary increase demanded by teachers, one of the main demands that gave rise to the conflict and the start of the indefinite strike.
