The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated this Saturday yellow warnings in a dozen Spanish provinces due to the combination of heat, rains, storms, wind and coastal phenomena, on a day marked by instability in several areas of the country.
According to the organism's forecast, in Andalusia the provinces of Cádiz will be under yellow warning for wind and swell. In Aragon, the warning affects Zaragoza, while in Castilla y León, Palencia and León will be affected by rains and storms, and Valladolid and Zamora solely by storms. In the northwest, Galicia concentrates several warnings, with A Coruña and Lugo also at yellow level, along with Asturias and Cantabria.
The meteorological situation will be marked by the presence of a DANA that will especially affect the peninsular northwest. This will leave cloudy skies and stormy showers that will begin in an isolated manner from early hours in Galicia and Asturias, but that will intensify throughout the afternoon and extend towards Cantabria and Castilla y León. AEMET warns that these precipitations could be locally strong, accompanied by hail and intense wind gusts.
In parallel, more stable weather is expected in a large part of the country, with a predominance of partly cloudy skies or with high clouds. Even so, evolutionary cloudiness could also be registered in mountain areas of the center and north, with some isolated shower, in addition to mists and coastal fogs in Baleares and the Catalan coast.
Regarding temperatures, maximum values will decrease in the northwest third and the Cantabrian, while they will rise in Canarias. In the rest of the country they will remain without major changes, although at high levels for the time of year. Maximums of between 34 and 36 degrees are forecast in wide areas of the southwest quadrant and in depressions of the northeast, without ruling out similar values in points of Canarias.
The wind will blow from the east component in a large part of the Peninsula and Baleares, with strong intervals in the Strait and intense gusts in coastal areas. In the Cantabrian it will turn to the west component and in Canarias north winds with strong gusts are expected.
AEMET insists that, despite the general stability in some regions, the combination of heat and stormy phenomena obliges to maintain caution throughout the day.
