The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has assured that “people should not be scared”, although he has defended that Europe must be prepared for “any scenario” given the current international context. The head of Spanish diplomacy made these statements during his participation in an event held in Bilbao.
Albares has insisted on the need for Europe to strengthen its capacity to respond to possible crises, but has stressed that this objective should not be conveyed to the citizenry in the form of alarm.
The minister has defended that the European Union must advance in the strengthening of its defense and security policy, especially in an international context marked by conflicts and geopolitical tensions. According to what he has indicated, it is necessary that Europe has the necessary instruments to guarantee its security.
Albares has also highlighted the importance of maintaining unity among European countries to face current international challenges. In his opinion, cooperation among member states is key for the European Union to be able to respond effectively to any eventuality.
