Jose Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, participated this Monday in the meeting of the Coalition of Volunteers for Ukraine, which was held on the same day as the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukrainian independence. Albares was present at this meeting via videoconference.

From the Ministry led by Albares, they have emphasized that Spain "has a firm commitment to Ukraine". However, they have also recalled that they also have a commitment to "a just and lasting peace" in the nation, which must be "sovereign and independent, within full respect for its internationally recognized borders."

In this same speech, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation insists that Spain "will continue to support Ukraine in the diplomatic, military, financial and humanitarian fields, in coordination with its European partners and allies". And continuing with this topic, the Ministry has also stressed that Spain maintains "its utmost condemnation" of the continuous Russian attacks against the country, and in particular against "those directed at the civilian population and critical infrastructure."

Spain also supports and helps Ukraine's accession process to the European Union, as well as the reforms that the Ukrainian authorities continue to promote despite the difficulties arising from the war. This is because Spain is a member of the founding group of the Ballistic Missile Coalition, which seeks to strengthen Ukraine's protection against threats affecting European security.
