The peace that never comes. The crisis between Iran and the United States adds a new chapter. Tehran claimed this Wednesday its "right to defend itself" after launching an offensive during the early hours against US military installations in several parts of the Middle East, an action that comes in response to the latest bombings executed by Washington on Iranian territory.

Through a statement issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported by the 'Fars' agency, the country's authorities have also warned the Persian Gulf states of the consequences that any collaboration with US military operations directed against Iran could entail.

"We warn that Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent right to defend itself, including by attacking the origin of the attacks and the bases and logistical facilities used for aggressive operations against Iran," states the text released by Tehran.

The Iranian offensive targeted several military positions linked to the United States in the region. According to the Revolutionary Guard and the Iranian Armed Forces, the attacks were carried out using drones and missiles and hit installations in Bahrain and Jordan. Likewise, Kuwait activated its air defense systems due to the risk of an expansion of the conflict.

Iranian military authorities have identified among the targets the US Fifth Fleet, deployed in Bahrain, as well as an air base used by the United States in Jordanian territory.

From Jordan, however, the armed forces have assured that they managed to neutralize five projectiles launched by Iran before they reached their targets. According to the Jordan News Agency, the action of the defensive systems prevented "neither casualties nor material damage".

The Iranian government has insisted that the military operation constitutes a direct response to Washington's previous actions. According to the Foreign Ministry, the attacks were executed "in response to the US military aggression against Iran".

The current escalation comes after the United States carried out new bombings on Iranian soil on Tuesday. Washington justified the operation as retaliation for the downing of a US military helicopter in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz.
