The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this Thursday that four Spanish citizens are missing due to the flood that has hit northern Nepal. At this moment, the latest reports put the number of people who have lost their lives at 160 and those missing at 700.

Through a communication sent to the media, Minister José Manuel Albares stated: "At this time, we have no record of Spanish fatalities, but there are four people we cannot locate."

Likewise, the Ministry reported that the Spanish Embassy in India and the Honorary Consulate of Spain in Nepal are mobilized after the strong flood recorded in the country. Both representations are monitoring the situation and updating information for Spanish citizens through their official channels and social networks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also made available to affected Spaniards consular emergency contacts, with the aim of providing assistance and attention in the event of possible incidents derived from the floods.

The phenomenon affected several towns located near the border with Tibet, in China, during the early hours of Wednesday. The force of the water has caused at least 160 deaths, in addition to significant damage to roads, bridges, homes and other infrastructure in the area.

While search efforts continue, Nepalese authorities are keeping the balance of victims and missing persons open given the magnitude of the damage caused by the flood, which has especially hit towns near the Tibetan border.
