The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and the Fight Against Antisemitism of Israel announced this Thursday that it has prevented the entry into the country of the independent Spanish journalist Queralt Castillo Cerezuela. The decision is based, according to the Israeli Government, on her publications about the Gazan offensive in Gaza started in October 2023.
The director general of the organization, Avi Cohen Skelly, recommended denying his access for disseminating content related to the BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions), showing support for this initiative and using terms such as “genocide”, “barbarism” or “massacre” to refer to Israel's actions. Furthermore, the authorities indicate that he has also been denied obtaining a press permit.
In the statement, the ministry includes several examples that it considers evidence of antisemitism, among them the comparison of the conflict in Gaza with the Holocaust and the dissemination of content from Palestinian media. The journalist, specialized in international politics, human rights and immigration, collaborates with different media, while Minister Amichai Shikli has reiterated the intention to act against those who support the BDS movement.
