Iran has announced the re-imposition of transit restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz a few hours after having allowed limited access, accusing the United States of breaching agreements and acting with “banditry and piracy”. The measure, communicated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, comes in a context of high regional tension, while Washington insists on maintaining its naval blockade until an agreement is reached and warns that it might not extend the ceasefire if there are no advances before the set deadline.

From Tehran, they maintain that the decision responds to the lack of guarantees on the American side in the fulfillment of commitments reached in previous negotiations. The Iranian authorities consider that the restrictions seek to protect their strategic interests in one of the most important maritime routes in the world for the transport of oil and goods.

For its part, the administration of Donald Trump maintains a firm position and has reiterated that the naval blockade will remain in force until an agreement with Iran is reached. The struggle between both powers adds uncertainty to regional stability and increases international concern about the possible impact on global trade and energy supply.
