The negotiations between the United States and Iran held this Saturday in Islamabad —with Pakistani mediation— have lasted for hours without, for the moment, an agreement having emerged. Nevertheless, the parties plan to resume contacts this Sunday in what will be a fourth round of dialogue, after a first day marked by the intensity of the conversations and persistent differences.

According to the Iranian agency IRNA, unofficial sources indicate that the negotiation process has been extended one more day at Pakistan's proposal. This initiative would have been accepted by both delegations, although it has not yet been confirmed by official sources of the parties involved.

In parallel, the American network CBS News has indicated that direct conversations between representatives of the United States, Iran, and Pakistan have lasted for more than nine hours, extending until 02:00 this Sunday (local time).

In the meeting participated, always according to this outlet, the American Vice President, Vance; the special envoy Steve Witkoff; and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Donald Trump. On the Iranian side, attended the Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, in addition to at least one Pakistani representative.

For its part, the Fars agency has indicated, citing an informed source, that in previous rounds no consensus has been reached on the main points of disagreement. It adds that, although both parties are now working on a new draft, Washington's stance continues to be an obstacle. "The greed of the American side so far is a serious obstacle to achieving a result," that source has pointed out.

Likewise, Tasnim has detailed that the talks began on Saturday at 13:00 (local time) at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad. Initially they took place between Iranian and Pakistani authorities, with the US delegation joining later. The contacts lasted until 03:40 on Sunday morning, after nearly 15 hours of uninterrupted meetings.

The parties are confident in continuing negotiations for several more hours throughout Sunday, with the objective of bringing positions closer and unblocking a process that, for now, continues without concrete advances.

In this context, the conversations have advanced to a technical phase after an unprecedented direct meeting between high representatives of both countries, with the incorporation of specialized teams tasked with addressing economic, military, legal, and nuclear issues.
