Pope Leo XIV will undergo surgery for a pulmonary nodule in the coming days, as announced this Sunday at the end of the traditional Angelus prayer, in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.
During his address to the faithful, the Pontiff explained that the finding occurred during recent check-ups and stressed that the lesion was detected at a very early stage, and was also well localized. Leo XIV summarized it with these words: “Recently, during some check-ups, doctors found a circumscribed nodule in my lung. It has been detected at a very early stage and is well localized.”
After receiving advice from the specialists who attended him, the Pope specified that he has opted to undergo the intervention. “Following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it,” added the Pontiff, in a message addressed to those gathered in the Vatican.
Thanks to the faithful and a request for prayer
Before concluding, Leo XIV thanked the faithful for their support and spiritual closeness, and asked them to pray for him during this process. “I entrust myself to your prayers,” affirmed the Pope, in a brief message after the Sunday prayer.
